Adventures of Supermarket Psychology

A scenario-based eLearning designed to help new store managers to increase sales using supermarket psychology techniques.

Tools Used: Articulate Storyline 360, Vyond, Figma, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, MindMeister, Freepik and Google Docs.

The Problem and Solution

In the supermarket industry, newly appointed store managers often struggle to understand and implement effective supermarket psychology techniques. These techniques are crucial for increasing customer engagement, optimizing product placement, and ultimately boosting sales.

To address this challenge, I consulted articles on supermarket psychology to identify key areas where new store managers lack understanding.

This information guided the creation of a scenario-based eLearning program that would allow store managers to practice these techniques in a simulated environment, enabling them to make informed decisions in real-world settings.

My Process

To develop this project, I followed the ADDIE model, beginning with the analysis phase. During this phase, I researched on the topic to identify the most important aspects of supermarket psychology that store managers need to understand. This information guided the creation of a text-based storyboard that outlined the flow of the eLearning program.

Once the storyboard was done, I focused on visual design, creating high-fidelity mockups to visualize the user interface and interactions. Then I moved on to the development phase, where I created the eLearning program using articulate storyline and Vyond to test functionality and gather feedback from peers and professionals.

I also created a reinforcing gamification component. When the learner chooses the correct choice, they will earn a star and also 1/5 of the brain will fill in after the positive consequence plays out.

Action Mapping

In reviewing the articles on supermarket psychology, several high-priority areas emerged: product placement, sensory cues, and customer movement. These insights formed the foundation for our learning objectives: The profit of the supermarket will increase by 30% in 6 months as store managers implement supermarket psychology.

Storyboard

I developed a text-based storyboard using a branching scenario. Each decision point in the scenario presented the learner with choices that would impact customer behaviour and sales. Detailed consequences were provided for each choice to reinforce learning outcomes.

Visual Mockups

Using Figma, I created a mood board and style guide to establish the visual direction of the eLearning program. Wireframes and high-fidelity mockups were then developed to visualize the user interface.

Full Development

After finalizing the prototype, I proceeded with the full development of the eLearning program. The program consists of over 100 scenes designed in Vyond and transferred to Articulate Storyline 360. Various animations and sound effects were incorporated to create an engaging and immersive learning experience.
